Jason Kidd’s coaching staff will look vastly different next season.

The Dallas Mavericks officially announced the newest members of Kidd’s staff Monday afternoon.

Frank Vogel will assume the role of associate head coach, with Jay Triano and Popeye Jones serving as the Mavericks’ second and third lead assistants, respectively. Phil Handy, Mike Penberthy, Dru Anthrop and Jordan Sears are the other newcomers on Kidd’s staff.

Three assistants will return: Eric Hughes, Keith Veney and Josh Broghamer, who served as the team’s Summer League coach in July.

Vogel spent last season as a coaching consultant with the Mavericks but now steps into the lead assistant role to provide more championship experience to Kidd’s coaching staff. He led the Los Angeles Lakers to a title in 2020 alongside Kidd, who served as an assistant coach.

Triano brings more than 20 years of coaching experience to Dallas. Most recently, he served as an assistant coach with the Sacramento Kings from 2022-25 after spending four seasons with the Charlotte Hornets and two seasons as the associate head coach and interim head coach of the Phoenix Suns (2016-18).

Jones returns to Dallas after serving as an assistant coach for the Denver Nuggets, which included their championship season in 2022-23. He boasts a bevy of coaching experience, with stops in Philadelphia, Indiana, Brooklyn and Dallas. He played four of his 11 seasons in the NBA with the Mavericks from 1993-96 and 2002-03.

Handy and Penberthy, who will serve as developmental coaches, were on the Lakers’ championship roster alongside Kidd, Vogel and Anthony Davis. Another member of that group was Anthrop, who arrives in Dallas after spending the 2023-24 season as an assistant on Vogel’s staff in Phoenix.

After spending the last two seasons as the head coach of the Texas Legends, the Mavericks’ G League team, Sears will rejoin Kidd’s coaching staff. He served as the head video coordinator for the Mavericks for two seasons. The Wesleyan University alum also spent two seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, from 2019-21.

Kidd and his revamped coaching staff will officially kick off preparations for the 2025-26 season on Sept. 30, when the Mavericks kick off training camp in Vancouver.
