Through the 2024-25 season, the Los Angeles Lakers have had a total of 506 players suit up for them, going back to their days in Minneapolis. Some were forgettable, some were serviceable, some were good and a select few were flat-out legendary.
As the Lakers approach their 80th season of existence (they were founded back in 1946 as the Detroit Gems in the National Basketball League), LeBron Wire is taking a look at each player who has worn their jersey, whether it has been a purple and gold one or the ones they donned back in the Midwest during their early years.
After winning back-to-back NBA championships in 2009 and 2010, the Lakers took a step backward in the 2011-12 season after legendary coach Phil Jackson retired and forward Lamar Odom was traded. They needed another ball-handling facilitator alongside Kobe Bryant, and so at midseason, they acquired guard Ramon Sessions in a trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Sessions brought speed to the team, although he didn’t really use it under coach Mike Brown, who had it play slowdown basketball. Still, he averaged 12.7 points and 6.2 assists a game that season with Los Angeles and helped it reach the second round of the playoffs.
He left L.A. as a free agent during the summer of 2012, and he played for six other teams over the next six seasons. The former 2007 second-round draft pick finished his NBA career with averages of 10.3 points and 4.1 assists in 23.3 minutes a game.
