The Philadelphia 76ers watched Joel Embiid labor through the 19 games he played in during the 2024-25 season. The big fella was nowhere near the dominant player he has been throughout his career and the Sixers shut him down in February.

The 2023 MVP winner then underwent surgery on his left knee in April–his second in 14 months–and the Sixers have since waited to see what comes next for him.

On Tuesday night, the Sixers posted a video of Embiid back in the gym putting in some offseason work. It’s the first real video anybody has seen of him since the surgery, and the more interesting part of the video is that Embiid did not have anything on his knee. No brace or anything of that nature.

Of course, this doesn’t mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it certainly encouraging to see Embiid back in the gym and putting in work. It means he’s making progress and it offers hope that he could be ready to go when training camp begins in preparation for opening night in Boston on Oct. 22.
