The 2016 NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and the Cleveland Cavaliers remain evergreen. LeBron James played a key role for the Cavaliers’ core, and his historic block made his legacy one step closer to defining the golden era. Meanwhile, the Warriors’ superstar Draymond Green was also significant in that landmark finals.

Green recalled their journey of that moment and the pain of watching his team lose a 3-1 lead to the Cavaliers. The Warriors forward was suspended for Game 5 after a foul on James in Game 4. The league upgraded the foul, pushing Green over the limit for flagrant points. Even though he doesn’t regret how things turned out, he learned a harsh lesson about controlling emotions.

“If anything I regret, there were some guys on that team that didn’t get the opportunity to win a championship because of my emotions,” Green said on Podcast P with Paul George. “And if I have one regret about the situation, it’s that those guys who never got another chance to win. That burns me.”

Now at 33, Green just signed a four-year, $100 million deal to stay with the Warriors, but he still thinks he could be the finals MVP if they win the 2016 title. The veteran guard has given a lot and has always shown profound loyalty to the franchise. The warriors truly had his back; however, he credits Kevin Durant for saving the Warriors’ legacy.

Green is still standing by his actions from the 2023 playoffs. During Game 2 against the Sacramento Kings, he stomped on Domantas Sabonis and was ejected and suspended. The moment quickly went viral.

On Twitch with Kai Cenat, Green opened up by saying, “He got my ankle wrapped; they don’t want you to see that part. He’s got my whole ankle, but they just want you to see the stomp.”

Sabonis got a technical foul, while Green received a Flagrant Two and missed Game 3. Despite the drama, the Warriors ultimately took over the series.
