The NCAA has permanently banned three college athletes who played basketball at Fresno State and San Jose State after they violated ethical conduct rules by betting on games, the organization announced Wednesday.

Mykell Robinson, Steven Vasquez and Jalen Weaver were ruled permanently ineligible by the NCAA. All three players were released from their respective teams and are no longer enrolled at those schools, according to a news release.

Robinson and Vasquez were roommates at Fresno State during the 2023-24 season. The following season, in January 2025, Robinson texted with Vasquez – who had then transferred to San Jose State – and the two coordinated a plan to underperform in several statistical categories during a regular season game, according to an NCAA investigation.

Robinson, Vasquez and a third party bet a combined $2,200 on Robinson for his under-line performance in those categories, and they won a $15,590 payout.

That same 2024-25 season, Robinson also placed 13 sports prop bets, including multiple on Weaver, his then-current teammate at Fresno State. He and Weaver each placed bets on themselves before a game in December 2024 after exchanging information about their betting lines, according to the release. Weaver placed a $50 prop bet on a parlay for himself, Robinson and a third student-athlete, which netted a $260 payout.

Robinson and Vasquez failed to cooperate with the NCAA enforcement staff’s investigation, according to the release. The investigation began after notifications from Fresno State and a sports betting integrity monitor about suspicious prop bets placed on Robinson.

All three cases were resolved via negotiation resolution in coordination with each player’s school, according to the NCAA. Robinson and Vasquez did not participate in the processing of their cases, while Weaver did and agreed to his violation.

Robinson averaged 10.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3 assists in 33.5 minutes in 17 games for Fresno State during the 2024-25 season. Weaver averaged 12.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 33.2 minutes in 25 games for the Bulldogs.

Vasquez averaged 2.1 points in 8.7 minutes in 11 games played for San Jose State last season.
