San Antonio Spurs guard makes an unexpected revelation about legendary Gregg Popovich.
For 29 years, Gregg Popovich was synonymous with the San Antonio Spurs. The legendary head coach led the organization to five NBA Championships.
However, coach Popovich’s tenure abruptly came to an end during the 2024-25 NBA season due to health concerns.
Over the years, coach Popovich has built a reputation as a no-nonsense leader who has never shied away from calling out the media and fans alike.

Being the head coach of a team for 29 years is a historic achievement. However, it’s likely impossible to pull that off without bonding with the roster.
Keeping that in mind, third-year Spurs guard Malaki Branham recently made a revelation about coach Popovich’s behavior in the locker room.
“You know, a lot of guys say that he doesn’t joke but, he’s definitely a jokester and it’s definitely good to have that in the locker room,” Branham told NBA insider Brandon ‘Scoop B’ Robinson.
He added: “But also he’s very serious too.”
It’s hard to imagine coach Popovich as a jokester, but it’s great to know that he has an excellent sense of humor. There have always been signs in his interviews and now it’s confirmed by a Spurs player.
What’s next for Gregg Popovich
Many have wondered if they will ever see coach Popovich within the Spurs organization in any capacity. Well, the answer to that burning question is a resounding yes.
Despite handing the reins of the Spurs to Mitch Johnson, Popovich will continue in his role as the team’s President of Basketball Operations.
That means that coach Pop will still have control over the team’s front-office decisions. This will help the young players continue to receive his mentorship in some capacity.
Popovich’s first step will be to end the Spurs’ six-year playoff drought by constructing an elite roster around their cornerstone superstar Victor Wembanyama.
