The Oklahoma City Thunder will revamp their Reading Challenge for 2nd graders across the state for a chance to win prizes and a special assembly for the top performing class.

In today’s Thunder Thursday, OKC Thunder Director of Community Engagement Jennifer Watson explained how the program works and what kids can expect if they want the top prize for their class.

“Our 2nd grade kids will have the opportunity to win some prizes as they’re competing with other classrooms across the state,” Watson said. “2nd grade is really that pivotal point where kids really do enjoy that type of reading.”

The competition will add the amount of minutes classrooms spend reading, and the top classrooms will all get special prizes! However, there will be only one top 2nd grade class that will take the grand prize.

“The great part is, at the end of the school year, our top class will get an assembly,” Watson said. “There will be Thunder entertainers. We’re making sure the average number of minutes are recorded by teachers or librarians in schools across the state.”
