Jaylen Brown is entering the second year of his five-year $285 million contract with the Boston Celtics. He will be tasked with stepping into a larger role for Joe Mazzulla’s team in the upcoming season, as he becomes the clear-cut primary option due to Jayson Tatum’s injury-forced absence.
Brown will undoubtedly thrive in his expanded role, especially if Mazzulla rebuilds the offense to get the best out of the 2024 NBA Finals MVP. However, there will undoubtedly be questions about how Brown adjusts back to a shared leadership role once Tatum is ultimately returned to the rotation, either later in the season or in the 2026-27 campaign.
Interestingly, Brown has also added some new speculation to the rumor mill, as during a recent appearance on the “Big Tigger Show,” he refused to rule out one day suiting up for the Atlanta Hawks. Whether that move would come during his current contract or deeper into the future is anybody’s guess. Nevertheless, with his expanding role, the fact that he’s in his prime, and the draw of his hometown team, there’s always a chance Brown could look to make a move further down the line.
Adam Taylor and Wayne Brown discussed Brown’s comments and why there’s nothing to worry about for Celtics fans, at least in the short term. However, the duo did discuss the potential for Brown to make a move in the coming years, especially if he helps the Celtics secure another championship along the way.
