While on an Atlanta radio show, Jaylen Brown was asked about the likelihood of him ever playing for the Hawks:

“You never know…I think my grandma would [want that].”

Worth noting that Jaylen Brown tried to shoot down the question before it was asked:

Over the last decade of his life, Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown has made New England his new home. However, is there any chance the longest-tenured Celtic would ever head south for a true homecoming with the Atlanta Hawks?

Brown grew up in Marietta, Georgia, and attended Wheeler High School, which is about 30 minutes away from where the Hawks play at State Farm Arena. The four-time NBA All-Star and 2024 NBA Finals MVP has been part of his fair share of trade rumors, yet the Cs never struck a deal — and Brown has seemingly never asked to be moved.

In spite of all that, Atlanta radio personality, Darian “Big Tigger” Morgan, just had to ask Brown about the odds of him returning to “The A” at some point in his NBA career. The Celtics lifer knew the question was coming and tried to laugh it off before responding on V-103’s “The Big Tigger Morning Show.”

“You never know,” Brown said. “I think my grandma would (want to see that) too.”

Since Brown still has family in Georgia, it’s no surprise that his grandma has talked to him about playing close to home. Unfortunately for her and Morgan, who is the PA announcer at Hawks games, Brown is under a lucrative contract with the Celtics from now until the end of the 2028-29 season.

A trade can never be ruled out, though, as Boston did send former starting center Kristaps Porzingis to the Hawks this offseason. But, it’s worth noting that Celtics President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens has said several times that Brown is a key part of the Green Team’s foundation.

The Georgia native should be even more vital to the Cs during the 2025-26 season. With Celtics star Jayson Tatum out indefinitely with an Achilles injury, it’ll be up to Brown to lead Boston on and off the court.
