This offseason has been filled with speculation about Giannis Antetokounmpo’s long-term future with the Milwaukee Bucks. In an effort to strengthen his ties to the team, the Bucks even re-signed his brother, Thanasis Antetokounmpo.
Despite the chatter, Giannis has shifted his entire focus to EuroBasket 2025. Greek National Team head coach Vassilis Spanoulis reassured fans that Giannis would have no restrictions heading into the tournament.
That faith has already shown results, as Greece defeated Lithuania 87-76 in the quarterfinals. After the win, Giannis’ leadership was on full display. In a huddle, he reminded his teammates not to lose focus just because of one victory.
“We didn’t win anything. Another game, okay?” Giannis said.
Kostas Sloukas then replied with shouting, “Don’t sleep! Wake up!”
Behind Giannis’ energy and performance, Greece advanced to the semifinals of EuroBasket for the first time in 16 years. The Bucks star delivered an outstanding game with 29 points, six rebounds, four steals, and an efficient 9-of-15 shooting night.

Following Greece’s win over Israel in the Round of 16, Giannis took time to speak with Israel’s Deni Avdija. The Portland Trail Blazers forward later shared how meaningful the interaction was.
“Giannis gave me very nice and touching compliments; these are compliments from a player who works very hard and has a very good reputation in the league. I won’t go into details about what he said, but it’s certainly touching,” Avdija said.
On the court, Israel simply had no answer for Giannis. He exploded for 21 points in just 12 minutes, finishing the night with 37 points, 10 rebounds, and one assist. Next, Giannis and Greece will face Alperen Sengun and the Turkish national team in the semifinal.
