The Brooklyn Nets have committed to their rebuild in a huge way during the 2025 NBA Draft when they broke an NBA record by selecting five players in the draft. Brooklyn selected guard Egor Demin with the eighth overall pick in the draft, but could the last player that they took in the first round have the potential to be the team’s best player in a few years?
“That gives the oversized point guard good odds of emerging as the best of the group, but Danny Wolf’s higher-risk, higher-reward profile earns him the nod here,” Bleacher Report’s Grant Hughes wrote when picking Wolf as the player who could be the best player for the franchise in due time. Hughes acknowledges that Demin has the highest odds of being the best player in a few years, but he makes an interesting case for Wolf.

“Wolf is a true 7-footer with an intriguing face-up game, a smooth outside stroke, great feet and the ability to score from a variety of areas,” Hughes continued. “The Michigan product proved he could run pick-and-roll sets as a ball-handler in college, and there’s a chance he operates as a hub for a Nets team that will be searching for playmakers wherever it can find them.”
Wolf, 21, had an interesting college career as he went from being one of the best players in the Ivy League during his first two seasons at Yale before putting up similar numbers in his junior season at Michigan this past year. Wolf carried that momentum into the 2025 Las Vegas Summer League when he averaged 10.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 1.0 steals, and 2.7 blocks per game while shooting 39.1% from the field and 40.0% from three-point land.
Wolf comes into the 2025-26 season as one of the power forwards in a rotation competing with guys like Noah Clowney and Jalen Wilson for playing time. This upcoming season will be an early indication of whether Demin or Wolf will be the best player for the franchise in the next few years, but Wolf does have a solid case for being one of the better players either way.
