In this new series, Sixers Wire looks at the 16 players, per Sportrac, that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 13 under standard contracts and the three players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2025-26 season. Of course, there is a certain restricted free agent that will be included as well.
The new season begins on Oct. 22, and training camp is right around the corner. Now is the time to begin previewing the new season of adventure that is Sixers basketball.
Up next in this series is rookie big man Johni Broome who the Sixers selected in the second round of the draft. Broome had a decorated college career as he dominated while at Auburn winning the 2025 SEC Player of the Year award and a number of other awards he can throw on his resume as he enters the NBA.
For Broome, his three goals are as follows:
Develop that 3-point shot
Obviously, 3-point shooting is a huge part of the game today. Broome didn’t shoot the ball much from deep while in college, but in the summer league, he had a few good moments. He shot 38.9% from beyond the arc in the seven games he played in and that’s something he and the Sixers should explore. If Broome adds that shot to his arsenal, then that opens up so many other parts of his game and Philadelphia will be able to give him more opportunities.
Attack the offensive glass
Broome was an offensive rebounding machine while in college. He averaged 3.7 offensive rebounds in the 2024-25 season and then 2.4 offensive rebounds in the summer league. That is a skill that absolutely has to come over to the NBA. It’s a department the Sixers have struggled in at times and Broome has the skill and ability to step in right away and help in that area of the game. The No. 35 pick of the draft will likely spend some time in the G League, but his offensive rebounding will get him up to the Sixers quickly.
Meet Mike Longabardi
Speaking of the G League, Broome should get himself acquainted with Delaware Blue Coats coach Mike Longabardi. He should do wonders with Broome and continue to push him in the right direction. The Sixers have been able to see their youngsters go down to Delaware and make strides under Longabardi’s direction and the same should be for Broome. He won’t be in the G League for long, but he will likely spend some time down there.
