Rudy Gobert never holds back in appreciating greatness in the league. The Minnesota Timberwolves’ key presence recently expressed his admiration for Stephen Curry, and now he is talking about the Serbian star Nikola Jokic.
Jokic continues to amaze the league with his basketball excellence. His jaw-dropping pass made fans witness another on-court significance, which is why the Nuggets rely on him the most. Gobert played against Jokic many times and still deeply respects him.
On The Young Man & The Three podcast, Gobert explained how tough it is to guard Jokic. He said facing Jokic is always a challenge he looks forward to. “When I wake up and I get to play Jokic, I am always grateful that I get to try to stop one of the best players in the world,”Gobert said. “The way his brain works, the way he is able to adapt to situations, and most of the time make the right play, and doing it while tired, doing it while playing a lot of minutes. I think that’s what makes him unique.”
Jokic’s success shows that understanding the game can lead to a more powerful delivery. With three MVPs and a championship, Jokic will continue to prove his high level, and Gobert will have multiple reasons ahead to respect the big man.

On the same podcast, Gobert shared about his long-time inspiration. He used to watch Joakim Noah when learning how to rebound.
“I remember watching a lot of Joakim Noah,” Gobert said. “Even before I was in the league, I was watching his high rebound games, like how does he get 25 rebounds? I would try to watch it and understand it.”
Gobert also mentioned watching Dwight Howard, Pau Gasol, and Chris Bosh. But Noah stood out to him. Both players are famous for their defensive game and rebounding. Even though they play differently, Gobert learned from his idols’ hustle on the court.
