When Becky Burke took over as the Arizona women’s basketball head coach, she retained a staff member who was well-known to the Arizona faithful. While many sports fans may not even know what a director of basketball operations does, dedicated Wildcat fans knew Lauren Flaum and the job she did for both the players and the fans. They will have to get to know Allese Williams now.
Flaum was quietly dropped from the online coaching staff roster this week. Williams, who had followed Burke from Buffalo and been hired as the director of staff operations, now has the director of basketball operations title.
It was never clear what the director of staff operations position entailed. The initial announcement of Williams’ hire did not include a job description. In addition, general manager Michelle Marciniak had various staffing duties listed under her job description.
The confusion is gone, at least for now. There is no longer a director of staff operations.
The change of the online coaching roster came on the same day that freshman Ogheneruona ‘Miracle’ Akpotayobo was removed from the player roster.
