New general manager Scott Perry made it clear that he felt like acquiring a starting point guard was a top priority after taking over the Sacramento Kings this offseason. Star center Domantas Sabonis mentioned it in his end of season presser as well.

Dennis Schroder was that answer, signing a three-year deal with Sacramento early in free agency.

Perry is looking for someone to lead that group on both ends of the floor, a tone setter. Maybe Schroder’s best example of leading teams in recent years have come in his time with Germany’s national teams.

Once again coming up big for his country, Schroder led Germany to the 2025 EuroBasket finals against Alperen Sengun and Turkey.

Tallying 16 points, 12 assists, and three rebounds in the final round, the new Kings’ guard helped secure his country a EuroBasket title on Sunday.

Schroder was also named the EuroBasket 2025 MVP. Of course.

That also came with their All-Star Five honors (awarded to the five best players of the tournament), which he shared with Luka Doncic, Franz Wagner, Giannis Antetokounmp, and Sengun.

The German guard averaged 20.9 points, 6.6 assists, and 3.5 rebounds throughout the tournament, functioning as his squad’s floor general and tone setter — the exact role Sacramento’s general manager Scott Perry hopes he can play in the coming NBA seasons.

It’s his second national tournament MVP after taking home the 2023 World Cup MVP after helping Germany win gold. Drazen Petrovic, Toni Kukoc, Dirk Nowitzki, and Pau Gasol are some of the few players with EuroBasket and World Cup MVPs.

Some people are even beginning to question if Schroder has a case for the Hall of Fame.

Keep in mind, it’s called the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame, not the NBA Hall of Fame.

Continuing to play at a high level would do nothing but help Schroder’s case, and it certainly would benefit the Kings next season.

After waiving Terence Davis earlier this week, the Sacramento Kings are now being linked to Philadelphia 76ers forward Kelly Oubre Jr.

Bleacher Report NBA Insider Jake Fischer reported the rumor, while others mentioned them potentially exploring the idea of moving Dario Saric in the deal.

Oubre played 60 games for the Philadelphia 76ers last season, averaging 15.1 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 1.8 assists on 47.0 percent from the field in 34.6 minutes per night.

He also converted an underwhelming 29.3 percent from three-point range on an average of four attempts per contest.
