LeBron James’ relationship with the Los Angeles Lakers has been a massive talking point this offseason.

Even as a 40-year-old, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James has yet to show any steep signs of decline as a player.

Naturally, one would assume that the Lakers would ensure that the King retires as a member of the Purple and Gold. However, the two sides aren’t on the same page after LBJ opted into his $52.6m player option.

While the Lakers have improved their roster with several additions this offseason, they have been green-lit to please Luka Doncic. Now, the Lakers have a chance to make James happy by reuniting him with his former teammate.

Following a two-and-a-half-year stint, the Miami Heat officially parted ways with Kevin Love as the veteran forward was traded to the Utah Jazz.

However, even as a 37-year-old, Love has no intentions to spend the twilight years of his career on a rebuilding team.

This has led to rumors about Love potentially finalizing a contract buyout with the Jazz. NBA insider Evan Sidery added fuel to these rumors with his latest report on X.

“The Jazz are working towards finalizing a contract buyout with Kevin Love. Love is known to want to join a contender for potentially his last season in the NBA at 37 years old,” Sidery reported.

With the contract buyout in its final stages, several teams could Love’s leadership in the locker room. Among them, the Lakers are expected to be prime contenders as it will allow James to reunite with Love.

Love and James shared the court for four seasons during the King’s second stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers. In fact, they also won the 2016 NBA Championship as teammates.

Fast forward to 2025 and K-Love is no longer the star he once was, but that hasn’t stopped Lakers fans from daydreaming about a reunion with James.

“The Lakers could use him,” one fan wrote. While another added: “He will sign with the Lakers right after the Andrew Wiggins trade.”

“LA after they free up a roster spot by acquiring Andrew Wiggins,” a third fan added.

“For once the ‘future Laker’ meme makes sense,” a fourth fan felt.

“Most obvious Laker,” a Purple and Gold fan confidently stated.

Love averaged 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per game last season. So, it’s obvious he won’t be of much help on the court.

However, Love’s relationship with James and ability to be a vocal leader could certainly aid the Lakers in their quest to win the 2026 NBA Championship.
