The Dallas Mavericks shocked the world on Monday night, landing the first overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft. The San Antonio Spurs also moved up and will pick second.
With Dallas all but guaranteed to pick Cooper Flagg out of Duke University, the Spurs will have pkneyt of high-level prospects to workout and scout until the June 25th draft. Rutgers’ Dylan Harper has long been the consensus second overall pick, and the Spurs are favired to draft him, although there are plenty of other options that will emerge.

In his lone season with the Scarlet Knights, Harper averaged 19.4 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 1.4 steals while shooting 48.4 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from deep.
As a 6-6 guard, he can play both on and off the ball. He is an elite ball handler and passer, and the Spurs can use him, alongside De’Aaron Fox and Stephon Castle, to generate as many open looks for Victor Wembanyama as possible.
In college, he hit a solid 36.8 percent of his catch-and-shoot 3s, so while he struggled from deep in isolation, he is a solid off-ball scorer who can get open in the corner or on the wing.
His shot and defense both are promising, although he needs to improve. The Spurs can easily have him start his career off the bench and use a starting five of Fox, Castle, Wembanyama, Devin Vassell, and Harrison Barnes to start the season, although adding Harper will make Vassell an expendable and valuable trade asset as he continues to develop.

Harper could, of course, remain on the bench for his entire rookie season, rpvidng San Antonio with some added depth, but there is reason to believe that he, Fox, Castle, and Wembanyama will all be competing for All-Star spots by 2028.
