Despite the start of training camp around the corner, Jonathan Kuminga’s extended contract stalemate with the Golden State Warriors has yet to be resolved. Although multiple other restricted free agents have recently inked new contracts, Kuminga remains a restricted free agent in the late stages of the NBA offseason.
As negotiations continue deep into September, a pair of key Golden State veterans have reportedly reached out to Kuminga. According to Shams Charania and Anthony Slater of ESPN, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green have reached out to Kuminga, checking in on his plans and mindset.

Kuminga is the domino that triggers the rest of their plans. So, it’s no surprise Kuminga’s phone lit up on the business front over the past few weeks. His star teammates Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green have reached out, checking on Kuminga, his plans and his mindset.
According to Charania and Slater, the Warriors have recently offered Kuminga a three-year, $75.2 million contract with a team option in the third season. However, Kuminga is looking for some control in his future with a team option instead of a player option being an issue. Another option for Kuminga could be to sign his one-year, $8 million qualifying offer with the Warriors.
While the Warriors and Kuminga continue to negotiate, Golden State’s roster for the upcoming 2025-26 season remains incomplete. According to multiple reports, the Warriors have been connected to free agent veterans like Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Seth Curry and Gary Payton II. However, the Warriors appear to be waiting to resolve their situation with Kuminga before making any other free agent moves.
Training camp is set to open for the Warriors on Sep. 29 with their first preseason contest set for Oct. 5 against the Los Angeles Lakers.
