One of the most significant offseason storylines was Kevin Durant‘s transfer to the Houston Rockets following a lackluster two-year stay with the Phoenix Suns. He was brought in with the intention of filling the void and leading the Rockets to a title or at least a deeper postseason run. How long will he be bound to H-Town is the question now.
Durant’s contract with the Rockets, which was carried over from his Suns contract, is currently worth $54.7 million for one year. Nonetheless, an extension is possible for the 15-time All-Star.
Before he ever wore Houston’s jersey, would they provide him one?
With a bunch of players who are incredibly talented but yet lack the experience he brings to the table, it could be wise for them to lock him down for the foreseeable future so he can end his career on a high note. Thankfully, the front staff of the Rockets concurs.
According to Will Guillory of The Athletic, Durant is considering a new offer. On X, he said:
“All signs point” to Kevin Durant signing an extension with the Houston Rockets soon that will “tie him to Houston for the foreseeable future,”
Guillory went on to say that although Houston wants to extend Tari Eason first, they will take all necessary steps to keep KD from becoming an unrestricted free agent at the conclusion of the 2025–2026 campaign. According to NBA analyst Brian Windhorst, Houston would open the pocketbook for Durant.
