Oklahoma City Thunder rookie Thomas Sorber underwent successful surgery to address a torn ACL in his right knee, the team announced on Tuesday.

Sorber sustained the injury during an offseason workout on Sept. 4 in Oklahoma City. He had the procedure performed at the Cedar-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles and is expected to make a full recovery for the 2026-27 season.

The injury setback came after Sorber missed summer league with the Thunder due to a toe injury sustained last season as a freshman at Georgetown. He was limited to 24 appearances after going down with the injury on Feb. 15 against Butler.

Sorber was the 15th pick in the 2025 NBA draft after averaging 14.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals on 53.2% shooting from the field last season. He became the first Hoya since Markel Starks (2012-13) to earn an All-Big East third-team selection.

The 19-year-old was expected to be ready for the start of training camp this month after recovering from his previous injury. He will now spend the upcoming season recovering with the team medical staff that just helped Nikola Topić through the same ligament tear.

The injury was certainly an unfortunate setback for Sorber and the Thunder heading into the upcoming season. The organization will now look to rally around him as he begins a lengthy recovery process to return to the basketball court.
