This offseason, Kevin Durant joined the Houston Rockets after spending more than two seasons with the Phoenix Suns. Despite being one of the most gifted scorers in NBA history, Durant’s championship success remains tied to his stint with the Golden State Warriors.
Durant’s decision to join the Warriors in 2016 shocked the basketball world. It came right after the Oklahoma City Thunder’s heartbreaking playoff loss to Golden State. At that time, Durant was still teammates with Russell Westbrook. For Westbrook, the news felt like a betrayal. In a candid video, he revealed just how stunned he was.
“I’m pissed. I’m livid. I feel like we let that opportunity slip away. I start laughing instantly I’m like this can’t be true, nah no way (KD) would go to that team, they just beat us,” Russell said.
Durant played for the Warriors for three seasons. During this time, he helped the team reach the NBA Finals for three consecutive years.
With the team, Durant won two championships and was named the NBA Finals MVP twice. Seeing his supremacy, Jeff Teague admitted that the Warriors’ dynasty would not exist without Durant’s contributions.

Recently, Kevin Durant opened up about the possibility of representing Team USA at the 2028 Olympics. When asked if he would participate, Durant expressed that he doesn’t want to occupy a token “veteran” role.
“If I’m still me. I don’t want the gift of the veteran ‘come sit on the end of the bench.’ But we’ll see. I still enjoy going to the gym every day, so that’s a start,” Durant said.
Durant’s Olympic journey has been historic. As a key member of the USA men’s national basketball team, he has amassed four gold medals. The achievement made him the first male athlete to win four Olympic golds in a team sport during the 2024 Paris Games.
