Sam Amick, NBA insider for The Athletic, joined The Carmichael Dave Show with Jason Ross to break down the latest with Golden State Warriors’ forward Jonathan Kuminga and his complicated, drawn-out restricted free agency.
While sign-and-trade seemed like a more likely avenue earlier in the offseason, the Sacramento Kings and Phoenix Suns have consistently been the pairing reported as interested in the 22-year-old.
Amick reported earlier in the week that Sacramento had offered the Warriors Malik Monk and a protected 2030 first-round pick.
“First of all, the Warriors don’t want any protections on the first-round pick,” Amick said.
“If you took those away and it was unprotected, I think the deal probably gets done, but I don’t see that happening.”
They went on to explain why a return to Golden State seems likely, even if it’d be expected to be temporary — unless Sacramento were to increase their offer notably.

Restricted free agents Josh Giddy and Cameron Thomas have concluded their varying deals, but Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga has yet to reach an agreement with the Bay Area organization.
Due to the nature of their negotiations — with it being clear that Kuminga doesn’t prefer going back to the Warriors since they primarily value his contract as a trade chip — sign-and-trade conversations have floated around this entire offseason.
Sacramento and Phoenix are the two teams that have consistently been reportedly interested in the 22-year-old.
Earlier this week, The Athletic’s Sam Amick confirmed that ongoing status.
Amick also reported that Sacramento’s most recent offer included Malik Monk and a protected 2030 first-round pick, but “their insistence on including protections on the first-rounder remains the main obstacle to a possible deal.“
