Another member of Hoover’s record-setting Class 7A championship team is headed to the SEC.
Bucs center Jackson Sheffield has committed to play at Vanderbilt, he announced on social media in conjunction with On3Sports’ Joe Tipton.
Sheffield took a visit to Vanderbilt at the end of August and visited Maryland this week. He also held offers that include Tennessee, Oklahoma, Mississippi State Virginia Tech, Loyola-Chicago and UAB.
The 6-foot-9 center prospect was ranked by On3 Sports as the No. 99 overall player in the class of 2026 and the No. 11 overall center.
He is the No. 2 prospect in the state of Alabama behind Hale County’s Gage Mayfield.
He and 2025 Mr. Basketball Dewayne Brown — now at Tennessee — give Hoover players from back-to-back classes who have committed to Southeastern Conference programs.
Last season for the Bucs’ Class 7A state championship team that went a perfect 35-0 on the season, Sheffield averaged 7.3 points and 5.8 rebounds. He logged eight points and three rebounds off the bench against Central-Phenix City in the Class 7A semifinals.
