The Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young remains in limbo with his future in the league. The 26-year-old is still unsigned, and the franchise seems quiet on that matter. However, Young stays loyal and has high expectations of his franchise for making a tough contention ahead of the next season.

Young is eligible for a $229 million extension, but the huge number calls more trouble for the Hawks as they are having a tight financial status this offseason. Over the past three seasons, he averaged more than 25 points and nine assists per game, which shows his value as a top-level point guard.

In a recent interview appearance, Young shared his admiration for Denver Nuggets’ star Russell Westbrook. “It was Russ, just because of OKC and all that stuff. Russ is just a big mentor (for me). It was Russ for me,” he admitted. However, coincidentally, both players face an unexpected uncertainty this offseason.

Until a deal lands, Trae is focused on preparing for the next season. However, the delay in extension talks raised tension and questions about the Hawks’ long-term plans.

Young became a threat to New York City after leading the Hawks to beat the Knicks in the 2021 playoffs. He scored nearly 30 points per game and even silenced the Madison Square Garden crowd during a big moment.

Young recently said on the Club 520 podcast that the crowd started chanting at him early in the series. “I mean, it’s cool. Thing is, I didn’t grow up ever thinking I was going to be the villain in New York, but it is what it is. You just embrace it. When I walk around the city, I get a lot of love. It’s not like I feel scared to go around the city,” Young said. “They say all these things on camera, but when they see me, it’s a different way for the most part.”

Despite all the hate, Young remained calm, and he might get another shot at upsetting the Knicks in the upcoming year.
