There’s always a lot of discussion regarding 40-year-old future Hall of Famer Lebron James. Will he muster another championship run with the LakeShow? Is his son poised to carry on his legacy? While we’d love to find the answers to these questions, one topic that has recently spurred commotion and panic from his fanbase is rumors of retirement.
The suggested retirement talks were ignited by a recent social media post from James showing off his newfound love for golf. The reason this pushed the possible retirement agenda is due to golf being a sport commonly picked up as a transitional hobby for freshly retired athletes as a means to enter the next chapter of their lives after their sports career ends.
Another reason fans were so alarmed stems from an ongoing tour that James and Nike are currently on to promote his 23rd sneaker with the sports apparel giant. The tour is called the “Forever King” tour, to which fans felt it implied some sort of farewell from the basketball legend.
But rest assured, James has quickly calmed and nipped those rumors in the bud. During his interview on 360 With Speedy, he firmly stated:
“I’m not hinting at anything. Obviously, I know I’m on the other side of the hump, for sure. Come on now, I’m not about to play another 23 years, that’s for damn sure, and I’m not about to play another 10. I’m definitely gearing up to where the end is, I’m not there yet.”

“Listen guys, every time I pick up something new, it does not mean retirement. … It’s just something I want to do, just a little hobby.”
Obviously, King James is not getting any younger, so retirement is certainly on the horizon for the sports icon. But with the 2025-2026 looming, we can count on James to give the Lakers his all at least one more time.
