A streaming service monster might see a local bump in subscriptions next month. The Oklahoma City Thunder will see their NBA championship season under the spotlight less than a week before they kick off the 2025-26 Opening Night.

Netflix announced that the ‘Starting 5’ second season will drop on Thursday, Oct. 16. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was one of the five NBA superstars chronicled for their 2024-25 journey. He had the best ending with a Larry O’Brien trophy.

The other four players were Jaylen Brown, Kevin Durant, Tyrese Haliburton and James Harden. The Netflix documentary makers must’ve salivated at the mouth when the Thunder and Indiana Pacers squared off in the 2025 NBA Finals. And the drool must’ve been too much when they saw that championship series go back and forth to a decisive Game 7.

Thunder fans and Netflix viewers will get a chance to revisit Gilgeous-Alexander’s historic season through different lenses. He won about every award imaginable. From MVP to NBA Finals MVP to a championship to a scoring title. He was the league’s best player last season. He averaged a superb-efficient 30-plus points for a third straight year.

And oh yeah, the Thunder were the clear-cut best team in the league last season, too. They finished with a historic 68-14 regular-season record and set the NBA record for largest point differential at plus-12.9. That meant most OKC games ended in blowout wins.

It’ll be fun to see some behind-the-scenes footage about Gilgeous-Alexander and the historic season he had. It’ll be a nice appetizer to consume before the Thunder start their NBA championship reign and hope to be a rare back-to-back winner.
