CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A longtime basketball coach and mentor in the Tri-State area has died.
Jim Clayton, who founded Sports City U Basketball and guided hundreds of athletes over the years, died Thursday.
In addition to his work with Sports City U, Clayton also spent time as a coach and teacher at both Cabell Midland and Huntington High over the years, including as an assistant coach on the Highlanders’ team that won three state titles.
Known for his work instilling fundamentals in the area’s youth, Clayton also provided confidence and motivation through his guidance and slogans like “BAM: Believe, Achieve, Motivate.”
Funeral arrangements were not immediately available.
