The Boston Celtics are heading into the 2025-26 season with a significantly different roster to the one that lost to the New York Knicks in the Eastern Conference semifinals. Multiple key members of the championship run have now departed. Brad Stevens has replaced them with young and unproven talent, in the hope of unearthing one or two cost-controlled contributors.

Boston’s chances of success have also been derailed due to Jayson Tatum’s Achilles tendon injury, which could keep him out of the rotation for most, if not all, of the upcoming season. That’s why, in a recent subscriber poll from Marc Stein’s “Stein Line Newsletter,” the Celtics were predicted to finish ninth in the Eastern Conference, thus positioning them to be a play-in tournament team.

In the latest episode of the “Celtics Chronicle” podcast, hosts Adam Taylor and Billy Calabrese discussed whether the Celtics’ predicted seeding was accurate, or whether Joe Mazzulla’s team could still make a push for the postseason. On the flip side, both Taylor and Calabrese shared their concerns over the Celtics potentially missing the playoffs altogether, depending on how things unfold.
