As you may have noticed, here or elsewhere, recruiting is a bit funky this year. The combination of a class that’s perceived as weak (we’ll have to wait to see if that’s true or not) and all the changes coming from NIL, the new transfer rule and now the House settlement has made a lot of programs cautious about recruiting. And with a supposedly weak freshman class on the way, it might seem a little squirrely.
Keep in mind this is just projection of course – Duke, for one, hasn’t gotten a single commitment. Still, it says something about what people expect. At the end of the day, Duke, Kentucky and Kansas will probably have great classes. At Arkansas, John Calipari will probably have a good class as well.
Only Missouri is somewhat of an outlier here. The Tigers have two 5-star commitments though with Jason Crowe and Toni Bryant.
Notably not considered: UNC, where the talent has fallen off in recent years (this is true of the Tar Heels in the NBA as well. We’re a long ways from the days of Michael Jordan, James Worthy and Kenny Smith being in the league).
