The former Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant made some takes on his elite career that can hold fans’ breath for some time. The forward player made waves across the league regarding his trade talks. After so many speculations, Durant finally landed on the Houston Rockets’ core and is ready to take charge of the team’s young rotation.
Durant has had an elite career so far in the league. He played for several teams and holds a consistent, strong mindset on the court. Last year, he played 62 games for the Suns and averaged 26.6 points, six rebounds, and 4.2 assists while shooting 52.7% from the field. His on-court presence and veteran leadership can boost the Rockets’ confidence in the next season.
In a recent interview, when asked about retirement, Durant made it clear he wants to play more. “As long as I can. I haven’t put a number on it. I obviously think about retirement every year, and what it would be like. … I don’t even want to think about it right now, but when people are asking me these questions every day, I can’t help myself (laughs),” he said. “But I still enjoy going to the gym, and I enjoy that struggle of getting better every day, and grinding as an NBA player. Hopefully, in my 40s, I can play until then.”
If Durant stays healthy and performs like this, he may reach his 40s. Rockets fans will watch him closely this season as training camp begins soon.

Durant may play in the 2028 Olympics if he still feels like himself. He said he doesn’t want to join just for a legacy spot and wants to earn his place. At his 40s, he would likely be the oldest player on the team.
Durant helped Team USA win its fifth straight gold in 2024. He now holds the record for most Olympic points in history, with 518. “Yeah, if I’m still me,” Durant said. “I don’t want the gift of the veteran ‘come sit on the end of the bench.’ But we’ll see. I still enjoy going to the gym every day, so that’s a start.”
However, with a strong mindset and a talent-stacked roster of the Rockets, Durant remains focused on the next NBA season. He aims high to make another championship push in the upcoming season.
