How drastic will the Boston Celtics trim their roster this coming offseason? The Celtics have all but confirmed that they will make some moves to save money on what would otherwise be a historically large payroll and tax bill for the 2025-26 NBA season, with former majority owner and now Boston CEO Wyc Grousbeck letting it be known to the local media that he does not believe ANY team will remain in the new collective bargaining agreement (CBA)’s second apron for more than two seasons.

With the Celtics presumably among those teams, the question then becomes which players will be shipped out or not brought back, and who is presumable safe from the budget cuts? The question comes into even sharper focus given the fact that Boston’s two star forwards, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, are at the height of their powers.
