In this new series, Sixers Wire looks at the 16 players, per Sportrac, that comprise the Philadelphia 76ers roster — 13 under standard contracts and the three players on two-way deals — and gives each three goals for the 2025-26 season. Of course, there is a certain restricted free agent that will be included as well.

The new season begins on Oct. 22, and training camp is right around the corner. Now is the time to begin previewing the new season of adventure that is Sixers basketball.

Up next in this series is that certain restricted free agent: Quentin Grimes who remains unsigned, but it is widely assumed that he will return to this group. The Sixers acquired Grimes from the Dallas Mavericks at the deadline and he produced at a high level for Philadelphia averaging 21.9 points and providing some legitimate isolation scoring.

For Grimes, his three goals are as follows:

Prove that his production was no fluke

Grimes was an offensive dynamo for Philadelphia after the deadline. With all of the injuries to the team’s stars, the pressure was on Grimes to get the job done on the offensive end of the floor to get the scoreboard moving for the Sixers. He did so at a high level, but can he do it for a full season rather than a 28-game stretch? That is the big question. Another one is can he produce while playing next to the likes of Joel Embiid, Paul George, and Tyrese Maxey? That remains to be seen.

Provide catch-and-shoot ability

This is something Grimes should be able to do rather easily. He shot 39.4% on catch-and-shoot 3-pointers per the NBA’s database so that is something he has to do for a full season once the stars are back on the floor. As time moves on, the Sixers will look for Grimes to provide a big boost to their offense and fill a role rather than be the No. 1 star on the team. If Embiid can feel comfortable passing out of the double team to Grimes, then that will make the offense flow a bit easily.

Be a pest defensively

Again, this is all about filling a role for this group. The Sixers will need Grimes to step up and be a pest defensively in order to be that 3-and-D guy for this roster. Philadelphia needed him to really do a lot after the deadline because of all of the injuries. That won’t be the case in the coming season should they be healthy. A lot of this will be whether he can comfortably slide into a role and still be productive. When knowing what Grimes can do in terms of his shooting, it shouldn’t be too much of an ask.
