LAS VEGAS, NV (WIS) – A’ja Wilson is now in a ‘league of her own’ after becoming the first player in WNBA history to win a fourth MVP trophy, and the Las Vegas Aces star was able to receive the league’s top accolade in style on Sunday.
In a video recently obtained by WIS, Wilson’s boyfriend and Miami Heat star center, Bam Adebayo, and WNBA Commissioner, Cathy Engelbert, are seen approaching Wilson with the WNBA MVP trophy as she is celebrating with her teammates at the Aces’ practice facility.
Wilson was overcome with emotion when Adebayo walked in. After receiving a congratulatory address from Engelbert, Adebayo ‘hand-delivered’ her the trophy. Wilson was wiping away tears as she accepted the honor.
She was chosen by a panel of 72 sportswriters and broadcasters, earning 51 overall first place votes. Wilson surpassed four other finalists to capture the league’s top prize.
A Columbia native, she helped lead USC to their first national championship in 2017.
