The Denver Nuggets had a very good offseason and they re-loaded around superstar Nikola Jokic.

New executives Ben Tenzer and Jonathan Wallace traded Michael Porter Jr. to the Brooklyn Nets for Cam Johnson. They also added Jonas Valanciunas in another deal, brought home Bruce Brown in free agency and inked Tim Hardaway Jr. as well.

When you have the best player on Earth in Jokic, it was the kind of moves Nuggets fans wanted to see. They’re going for another championship while Nikola Jokic is still in his prime.

And those moves got the attention of the NBA, as ESPN released its offseason survey on Monday morning. Tim Bontemps polled 20 coaches, scouts and executives for their thoughts on a variety of topics.

Let’s start with Jokic, who is clearly the top player in the league. 19 out of 20 polled said he’s the top dog right now, with Luka Doncic receiving the only other vote. When it comes to the 2025-26 MVP, Jokic also led the way with seven votes. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander received five votes, Doncic four and then a few other guys we scattered around.

You can make a strong case Nikola Jokic should’ve won five MVPs in a row, but he’s settled for three. This could definitely be his fourth in six years.

“While there has been a nip-and-tuck battle for MVP between Jokic and Gilgeous-Alexander over the past few seasons — and our survey projects another — there was little debate about who the single best NBA player is at the moment. That would be Jokic,” Bontemps wrote.

As far as the best offseason, the Nuggets were graded second in the NBA, behind only the Hawks. Atlanta got seven votes and Denver had four. The Rockets, Thunder and Magic all got at least two votes.

“Denver received a lot of credit for giving Nikola Jokic some much-needed help off the bench,” Bontemps wrote.

And finally, when it comes to winning the Western Conference and NBA Finals, the overwhelming majority of respondents think the Oklahoma City Thunder will go back-to-back. However, the only other team to get votes in the West and to take the whole thing was the Nuggets.

OKC earned 18 votes as champions of both, while Denver got two. No one picked an Eastern Conference team to hoist the Larry O’Brien trophy, although it was split between mostly the Cavaliers and Knicks to be in the Finals.

Nikola Jokic and the Nuggets are firmly on the national radar, as they have been for years. Now it’s about getting a second title in four seasons.
