The Phoenix Suns are adding one of their all-time greats to the organization.
Suns team owner Mat Ishbia posted on social media Monday that the Suns will have two-time MVP Steve Nash serve as a senior adviser going into the 2025-26 season.
“Steve Nash was an amazing player and exactly what the Phoenix Suns are all about,” Ishbia posted Monday, Sept. 22, on his X account. “His grit, toughness, and winning mentality have defined our organization in the past, and I’m so excited to share that Steve is formally joining the Suns as a senior advisor and will help us define our future for years to come!”

The Suns open training camp Thursday, Sept. 25, at the team’s practice facility and play their season opener Oct. 22 against the Sacramento Kings at PHX Arena.
Amazon Prime hired Nash as an analyst to work in the studio and be involved in game coverage entering the 2025-26 season.
Former Suns player Grant Hill is another example of someone with dual roles, as he’s a minority owner with the Atlanta Hawks and an NBA analyst for NBC this season after having the same role on TNT.
Hill and Nash were teammates in Phoenix from 2007 to 2012.
Nash compiled a 94-67 record as an NBA head coach in Brooklyn. The Nets fired him after a 2-5 start in his third season with the franchise, 2022-23.
Inducted into the Suns’ ‘Ring of Honor,’ in 2015, Nash had two stints with Phoenix, with the second one being special. He won both of this league’s MVPs playing for Phoenix after six seasons with the Dallas Mavericks.
Nash orchestrated the ‘Seven Seconds or Less’ offense under Mike D’Antoni. Phoenix won a then-franchise record 62 games in 2004-05 and reached the Western Conference Finals.
He won the first of back-to-back MVPs that 2004-05 season.
The 2018 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame inductee led the league in assists five times while with the Suns. He’s the franchise’s all-time leader in assists with 6,997.
Nash started his career in Phoenix as the 15th overall pick out of Santa Clara in 1996. The eight-time All-Star was part of the 1996 draft class that included the late, great Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Ray Allen, Stephon Marbury and Jermaine O’Neal.
The Suns added Steve Clifford as a coaching adviser earlier this summer.
