Criminal charges against former NBA and UConn player Ben Gordon were dropped Monday, his lawyer confirmed Tuesday. The charges stemmed from Gordon’s 2023 arrest at a juice shop in Connecticut hours after UConn won the NCAA men’s basketball championship.

Gordon’s case was dismissed in the Connecticut Superior Court in Stamford, and the weapons and threatening charges will be expunged from his record, according to the Stamford Advocate. Gordon completed a supervised probation program before Monday’s decision.

In April 2023, authorities arrived at a juice shop in Stamford, where they found Gordon “acting erratically,” Stamford assistant police chief Rich Conklin previously told the Stamford Advocate. Eventually, police forced Gordon to the ground and handcuffed him, according to multiple reports.

The incident followed a string of Gordon’s publicized arrests in recent years. The retired NBA player has previously opened up about his mental health struggles, including dealing with bipolar disorder and depression.

“Mental health is really important and the court saw his commitment to doing the right thing in life and that is why they sealed his record and dismissed all of his charges,” Gordon’s lawyer, Darnell Crosland, said in a statement. “I am blessed to have been his lawyer.”

Gordon — a former UConn star who won a national championship with the Huskies in 2004 — was a third overall selection by the Chicago Bulls in the 2004 NBA Draft. He spent 11 seasons in the league, playing with the Bulls, Detroit Pistons, Charlotte Bobcats and Orlando Magic.
