The Pacers signed 30-year-old point guard Monte Morris to a one-year contract.Morris who, like Tyrese Haliburton, played collegiately at Iowa State has played in 420 career NBA games and started more than a quarter of them. The Pacers are set to open training camp without Haliburton’s presence on the court after reaching the NBA Finals last season.

Veteran guard Monte Morris has signed a one-year contract with the Pacers, a league source confirmed to IndyStar, giving the Pacers added point guard depth as they prepare for a season without All-Star Tyrese Haliburton.

The 30-year-old Morris, who like Haliburton played his college ball at Iowa State, averaged 5.2 points and 1.6 assists per game in 45 games off the bench for the Suns last season. In eight seasons, he’s played in 420 games and started 166 for the Nuggets, Wizards, Pistons, Timberwolves and Suns. He’s averaging 9.5 points and 3.6 assists per game for his career.

Morris averaged 10.5 points on 48.2% shooting, 39.2% on 3s, and 4.0 assists his first six seasons in the league but dipped to 5.1 points on 41.7% shooting, 37.2% on 3s, and 1.8 assists the past two.

Andrew Nembhard will shift over to point guard from shooting guard in Haliburton’s stead as Haliburton recovers from an Achilles tendon tear suffered in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

T.J. McConnell will serve as backup but Morris gives the Pacers a third option.
