By waiving Martin’s non-guaranteed contract, the Jazz will save $8 million on this year’s salary.

Martin is now an unrestricted free agent and is likely to garner interest around the NBA.

Will Jazz Now Keep Kevin Love?

After waiving Martin, the Jazz roster sits at 15 players on guaranteed contracts, including veteran big man Kevin Love.

While Love, 37, has long been rumored to be a buyout candidate, the future Hall of Famer remains on the roster with less than a week until training camp opens.

The 17-year veteran is a notoriously positive locker room influence and advocate for players’ mental health, which could benefit the young Jazz roster.

Honestly, the news here might be that the Jazz are now FAR more likely to keep Kevin Love. https://t.co/0uhLSuTfwm

The Jazz acquired Love, Kyle Anderson, and a second-round pick in exchange for John Collins in a three-team trade including the Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat.

The UCLA product averaged 5.3 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 23 appearances with the Heat last season.
