The Philadelphia 76ers had a rather quiet offseason as their focus was on getting younger and adding more depth with the resources they had available. Their spending money was limited after a big 2024 offseason in terms of spending so the Sixers had to go with what was available throughout the offseason.
When considering all of that, one has to give President of Basketball Operations Daryl Morey a lot of credit. He landed Baylor star VJ Edgecombe with the No. 3 pick in the draft and then was able to bring in versatile players like Trendon Watford, Jabari Walker, and Dominick Barlow on cheap deals. Walker and Barlow are here on two-way contrcts.
However, per ESPN’s offseason survey, the Sixers did get a vote for having the worst offseason in the NBA in 2025. The New Orleans Pelicans took the most votes with nine as they had a very questionable offseason and the Phoenix Suns received four votes for their tough offseason as well.
Morey and the Sixers did what they could with the resources available and one could argue that it wasn’t a terrible offseason. They did what they sent out to do which is to get younger after a tough 2024-25 season in which Philadelphia focused too much on older players. Today’s NBA is focused on youth, depth, and versatility and one can see where Morey and his staff went with the moves they made.
Time will tell, but the Sixers are still in position to contend should they finally get some injury luck. A big factor for anything Philadelphia does in the coming season will be based on health. That is something they can’t control, but if the Sixers can get some luck, they’ll be in a great spot with the talent on this roster.
