Patrick Beverley’s stint in the Israeli League lasted only a single season before he decided to move on. This offseason, speculation grew around whether the veteran guard would make his return to the NBA. Beverley himself revealed that he came close to rejoining the Houston Rockets during the summer.

On a recent episode of The Pat Bev Podcast, the outspoken guard made a bold statement reflecting on his days with the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers. In his own view, during his tenures with the Rockets and Clippers, he was the best defensive guard in the league

“In that span of Houston Rockets [and] Clippers, I was probably the best defensive guard in the NBA. You know what I’m saying? At that time,” Beverley said.

Beverley spent five years with the Rockets. He started alongside James Harden in four of those seasons. During that stretch, he earned two All-Defensive Team selections, including a prestigious First Team honor in his final year.

His tenure with Houston ended in 2017 when he was traded to the Clippers in the deal that sent Chris Paul to the Rockets. One of his most memorable moments with L.A. came in the 2021 Western Conference Finals, when he infamously shoved Paul from behind and was ejected.

Despite the controversy, Beverley still added to his defensive resume, earning an All-Defensive Second Team nod in the 2019-20 season.

“CTE Bev back at it again,” one fan joked.

“Pat the type of guy, when you hear something positive about him, it coming from him. He plucks his own flowers,” one comment read.

“In a league with Jrue Holiday, Marcus Smart, John Wall, Dwade, Kobe, Tony Allen and Chris Paul ? Someone take his mic away,” another user slammed.

“He must have the best drug dealer of all time. Good lord,” one fan wrote.

“Not even close to Tony Allen wth man lol,” one fan added.

Despite his accolades, Beverley continues to face resistance from fans who remain unconvinced about his standing among the NBA’s top defensive guards.
