Boston Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck has officially passed the torch of team ownership on to Bill Chisholm, a native of Georgetown, Massachusetts who was unknown to Celtics nation just a few years ago.
Although Grousbeck, another Massachusetts native, is no longer the majority owner and Governor of the C’s, he’s still deeply invested in the historic franchise. During his 23-year tenure as the chief executive of the Green Team, Grousbeck witnessed plenty of success and earned two championships in 2008 and 2024. However, on Thursday afternoon at the Auerbach Center, he revealed that he’d like a little more bling for his fingers, per Noa Dalzell of CelticsBlog.

“I want a third ring,” Grousbeck admitted. “And then I want a fourth one. I’ve got two, it’s a nice start.”
After winning it all in the summer of 2024, Grousbeck shocked the basketball world by announcing that the Celtics were for sale. Chisholm and his partners prevailed in the bidding war a year later, taking control of the 18-time NBA champions for a whopping $6.1 billion.

Amid the typical chaos of the team transaction, many Celtics fans wondered what would become of Grousbeck. Instead of leaving Beantown, the respected Boston Basketball Partners L.L.C. founder plans to offer somewhat of a guiding hand to Chisholm. Moreover, Grousbeck said he hopes to “stay in forever” with the Celtics via his shares in the organization.

While Grousbeck will no longer be making the final call when it comes to team decisions, he told the media that he’s proud of how the sale went and, more importantly, excited about the new ownership group .
“It’s been a journey to get here, and I couldn’t be happier,” he said.
