Playing without star guard Darius Garland, the Cavs handed the Heat their worst loss in playoff history, 124-87, while taking a 3-0 stranglehold on the first-round series.
Six Cavs scored in double figures, including a team-high 22 points and 10 rebounds from center Jarrett Allen, while power forward Evan Mobley added 19 points and six rebounds. Shooting guard Max Strus posted 18 points and six-time All-Star guard Donovan Mitchell added 13.
De’Andre Hunter provided a 21-point punch off the bench, while Ty Jerome chipped in 13 points and 11 assists. Cleveland’s reserves outscored Miami’s bench, 52-18.
Perusing the stat sheet for the series, and it’s hard to find a disadvantage for the Cavs. Cleveland has shot better than 50% from the field and are winning the rebounding battle by a plus-6 margin per game.
Garland (left great toe sprain) remains questionable for tonight’s game. Sam Merrill started Game 3, but did not score in 19 minutes of action.
The Cavs are aiming for their first playoff sweep since they dusted up the Toronto Raptors in the second round of the 2018 NBA Playoffs.
Cleveland put to bed any narrative of overall losing basketball when playing in Miami. The Cavs entered Game 3 having lost 16 of their last 20 games in South Beach. Tonight, they will look for their third win in a row in the arena this season.
If Cleveland wins, they will face the winner of the Indiana Pacers vs. Milwaukee Bucks series, which Indiana leads 3-1.
The Cavs would also become only the second team to grab a sweep in the first round, joining the top-seeded Oklahoma City Thunder, who disposed of the Memphis Grizzlies in four.

The writing is on the wall for the veteran Heat. Facing an offensive juggernaut while failing to release a fury of their own, Miami is playing for pride on their own home floor while their top-10 defense has disintegrated before their eyes.
Miami will have to hope Cleveland plays more like in Game 2 when they let their guard down and nearly botched a 13-point lead to start the fourth quarter.
The Heat’s hopes rest on point guard Tyler Herro, who was stymied to just 13 points, four rebounds and three assists. The microwave scorer was coming off a 33-point night in Game 2. For the series, he is averaging 22.3 points, 4.3 rebounds and 3.3 assists.
Bam Adebayo notched 22 points and nine rebounds but coughed up six turnovers in Game 3. He is averaging 19 points, 10.7 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
Cast in the shadow of another No. 45, point guard Davion Mitchell has taken his game to another level, tallying five straight games with 15 or more points. The rising piece is getting some valuable run in the playoffs. But that time is dwindling.
Miami’s limitations of firepower were a topic of conversation heading into the series. The Heat have been held under 101 points in two out of the last three games. The Cavs have scored 121 points or more in every game this series.

Below is part of a breakdown on the importance of Max Strus’ role from cleveland.com Cavs beat writer Chris Fedor.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Days after flaming out of the 2023 playoffs, Cavs decision-makers regrouped and convened for an offseason strategy session.
Financial breakdowns. Draft-day possibilities — even though they didn’t have a first-round selection. Trade targets. Free agency wish list.
That non-competitive loss to New York provided a summer roadmap.
Young, unseasoned Cleveland needed more toughness, experience and shooting.
That’s why Max Strus was the top name on that wish list.
Flash forward to Saturday — exactly two years since a Game 5 loss at home that punctuated a New York gentleman’s sweep and unmasked every Cavaliers flaw — and there was Strus, a reflection of everything Cleveland once wasn’t.
The team’s most seasoned playoff performer — aside from veteran Tristan Thompson who is on the outside of the regular rotation — Strus played a leading role in the Cavs’ 124-87 win over the Miami Heat that pushed them one step closer to the conference semifinals.
“He does it all,” teammate Donovan Mitchell said of Strus. “Everybody talks about my leadership, but we don’t really give Max enough credit. He really leads by action. He doesn’t really speak a lot. But when he does, we listen. And then you look at tonight, he set the tone. He’s been that way since he got here. He’s continuing to be the reason why we’re continuing to do big things.”
