Expectations were high going into the season for Lakeland with 9 returnees on both sides of the ball. So far, the chiefs only loss has come to undefeated Wyoming Area. Lakeland is a throw first team that averages over 38 points per game.
Weston Loomis, Lakeland Senior says, “Season is going good so far. Obviously we got off to a pretty good start. We beat Riverside, which is really important game for us. We’re looking forward to that you know, full off and that’s the game we really want bad. But you know Wyoming Area was definitely was a letdown for us. Definitely woke us up a little bit that you know we aren’t unbeatable. Like we can lose and we have to still play our best every game. “
David Piwowarczyk, Lakeland coach added, “ I still think we have a lot of work to do. You know, our younger guys are still learning. We’re still making some mistakes. But, you know, overall, just watching the kids growth from last year to this year has been tremendous.
And, it’s exciting. And it’s an exciting time for Lakeland Football. “
Bob Ide, Describe your offense the way you guys play ?
David Naniewicz, Lakeland Senior answers, “ You know, we spread teams out. We like to, you know, throw the ball. We’re pretty balanced but, you know, this year, these guys we’ve been executing on every level on offense, all the positions, the O-, receivers, skill guys. So, you know, the execution has been there and I’ve been feeling pretty good. “
Dunmore ‘s losses to Lackawanna Trail and Riverside were by a combined 5 points. The Bucks have used their experience and former Susquehanna quarterback Weston Yannone to average nearly 36 points per game.
Keegan Oprisko, Dunmore Senior says, “ He can run our pass it. He’s a he’s a great player. I mean I can’t say enough about him. He’s great, we have wide receivers, we have a lot of threats around the field. Running backs, wide receivers.
Bob Ide asks, The way your offense runs. You have to have a great offensive line. Tell me about what you’ve seen from them this year ?
Kevin McHale, Dunmore coach responds, “I think they’re probably the most consistent with they’ve had this this season so far. And, you know, we have a few returners up there, with, Braden Shigo and Carter Davies. Durst, Logan Miller, Patrick Dickel and Keegan Oprisko as the center this year. So, they’re a good group. They work together well, they push each other, they communicate well to friends off the field. “
Ide asks, What’s the difference between last year, the last two years and this season with you guys?
Ryan Mecca, Dunmore Senior answers, “Yeah, you know, last year we were younger. We knew that coming in. But we were working all offseason and it’s just finally coming together now.
Right now Lakeland leads both Riverside and Dunmore in the district 2 AA standings. With a win over the Bucks the chief can solidify themselves as the playoff favorite having already beaten the Vikings. But the Bucks will be at home and won the last two times they have played.
Loomis says, “ I think we’re older this year. You don’t last year we were young I mean we’re athletic, but we didn’t have the size or the strength of it. I don’t like to compete with them that well. And I think this year we had a lot more experience and we got a lot more strength up front that we could use to try and beat them.
Oprisko added, “Sure they got it. They got a great team and but, you know any day of the week I pick our team over them. And if we fix those mistakes and play smart as a as one and not just by ourselves, I think we’re going to be able to win.
