The Dallas Mavericks made a few roster moves on Friday, including making the signing of former first-round draft pick Dennis Smith Jr. official.
The two sides had agreed to a reunion earlier this month.
Smith was selected by the Mavericks out of North Carolina State with the 9th overall pick in the 2017 NBA draft. He earned All-Rookie honors in 2017-2018, but played just a season and a half with the Mavs before he was dealt to the Knicks as part of the midseason trade that brought Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas.
The guard, 27, has since played for five different NBA teams, mostly off the bench. His last NBA action came in 2024 for the Brooklyn Nets. He last played professionally during a brief stint with European giants Real Madrid earlier this year.

In addition to Smith, the Mavericks announced the signing of forward/center Jeremiah Robinson-Earl.
Robinson-Earl averaged 6.3 points and 4.8 rebounds in 66 games (18 starts) last season with the New Orleans Pelicans. The Kansas City native was selected with the 32nd overall pick in the 2021 draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder after two seasons at Villanova.
In a related move, Dallas requested waivers on guard D’Moi Hodge, who was signed to the team last week.
