The Golden State Warriors and Jonathan Kuminga are fast approaching an inflection point. The former lottery pick has an Oct. 1 deadline to either reach an agreement on a new deal or sign his qualifying offer. However, despite that deadline rapidly approaching, no movement has been made in finding a solution to Kuminga’s current standoff with the Warriors.

On Saturday, Sept. 27, NBA Insider Jake Fischer added another interesting wrinkle to the saga, as he reported that neither Kuminga nor the Warriors have held discussions about pushing his qualifying offer deadline back. Therefore, Kuminga has just days to make a decision on how he’s going to proceed with his restricted free agency.

“Kuminga and the Warriors have had no discussions about pushing back his deadline to accept the qualifying offer, sources told The Stein Line,” Fischer reported.

Golden State could still look to move Kuminga via a sign-and-trade; however, they’re still facing the same issue, as any negotiations would need to conclude before his Oct. 1 deadline. The Warriors will undoubtedly want to avoid Kuminga signing his qualifying offer and becoming an unrestricted free agent next summer. After all, that would limit his trade value in the upcoming season and remove the team’s control over the situation.

Kuminga’s standoff has been a major issue for the Warriors. They’re poised to enter training camp on Sept. 29 with just nine players under contract. Therefore Golden State will undoubtedly want to find a resolution to Kuminga’s situation as soon as possible, which is likely why they haven’t explored pushing Kuminga’s deadline back any further.
