Deandre Ayton might have the time of his life in his LA Lakers debut if Al Horford suits up for the Golden State Warriors.
The Los Angeles Lakers prioritized landing a new center this offseason, after the massive gap in their roster has proven to be disastrous for them.
The Lakers signed Deandre Ayton after the former #1 overall pick agreed to a buyout with the Portland Trail Blazers.
On the Lakers, Ayton is looking forward to a fresh start, sharing his ambition to compete for an NBA championship next season.
And he might have been handed a boost ahead of opening night against the Golden State Warriors. Ayton has a great history against the Warriors’ new center, Al Horford, in recent years.

With the Golden State Warriors signing Al Horford, they have a new starting center to replace the recently departed Kevon Looney.
However, the 37-year-old center might be in for a rough opening night, as the Warriors play the Los Angeles Lakers, and he matches up with Deandre Ayton.
While the two players haven’t faced each other in over a year, their last two head-to-head encounters didn’t go well for Horford.
Across Deandre Ayton’s last two games against Al Horford, he averaged 22.0 points and 14.5 rebounds. If he continues this trend, Ayton will have a great debut with the Lakers.
If anything, Ayton has a chance to be even better, as Horford is now even older and has struggled with injuries since their last meeting against each other.

Deandre Ayton has proven he can play championship basketball
While the last few years have done some damage to his reputation, there is no denying that Deandre Ayton has played championship basketball in the past.
Ayton was integral to the 2021 Phoenix Suns squad that went to the NBA Finals. Many believe he was the third option behind Devin Booker and Chris Paul.
On the Lakers, with players like Luka Doncic and LeBron James, who can create chances just as well as Chris Paul, Ayton could return to his old form.
Along with that, Ayton will be motivated to prove his value to the Lakers and try and perform at the highest level possible.
