Australian forward Alex Toohey, the 52nd pick in the 2025 NBA draft, signed a two-way contract with the Golden State Warriors on Monday, the team announced.
Toohey averaged 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.5 steals and 1.3 assists on 30.2% shooting from 3-point range last season with the Sydney Kings. He was rewarded with the NBL Next Generation Award, given to the top player under the age of 25.
The 6-foot-8 standout joined the Kings in June 2023 as part of the Next Stars program, a plan introduced by the NBL to give top prospects a path to play professionally. It has helped the likes of LaMelo Ball, Josh Giddey, AJ Johnson and Alexandre Sarr, among others.
Toohey debuted with the Warriors in summer league, averaging 6.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 1.2 steals on 26.2% shooting from the field in six appearances. He produced his best game on July 13 with 15 points and five rebounds in a win over the Utah Jazz.
The 21-year-old will split his time next season between the NBA and Santa Cruz in the G League. He is eligible to be active for up to 50 games in the NBA and will earn $636,435, which is equal to 50% of the minimum salary applicable to a player with zero years of service.
Toohey will now have the chance to begin his career with the Warriors and develop within the organization. He is the third player signed to a two-way contract, along with Jackson Rowe and Pat Spencer.
