Mark Wahlberg, a Dorchester native, was seen shooting a new movie in Boston on Monday, but it appears the city was disguised as New York. With New York Knicks gear and signage seen on the set, it appears the area near the intersection of Federal and High streets in Boston’s Financial District was being used as a stand-in for Manhattan. Filmmakers often use that neighborhood as a stand-in for New York City. Next week, the project is expected to shift to Shrewsbury. Location manager Mark Fitzgerald told the town’s Select Board the project plans to film on part of Grafton Street on Oct. 8.”It’s a great story. Mark plays a long-haul trucker whose son has autism, and they do a bunch of road trips to bond. They go to all the NBA arenas,” Fitzgerald said.According to IMDb, the film will be called “Weekend Warriors” and is based on a German film about a similar journey with English Premier League soccer teams.Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James is listed among the movie’s producers.
