With training camp starting for the Los Angeles Lakers this week, they made a roster move on Monday. They signed Nick Smith Jr., a 6-foot-2, 185-pound guard, to a two-way contract.

Smith, 21, played one year of college basketball at the University of Arkansas, and he was taken with the No. 27 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft by the Charlotte Hornets. In two seasons in the league, he has averaged eight points, 1.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 18.9 minutes a game while shooting 39.1% from the field and 36.9% from 3-point range.

The Lakers brought him in using the final two-way spot on their roster.

Los Angeles has center Christian Koloko and guard Chris Mañon taking up its two other two-way contract spots. Its first preseason game of the 2025-26 campaign will take place this Friday against the Phoenix Suns in the Inland Empire at Acrisure Arena.
