The Jonathan Kuminga restricted free agency saga has finally reached a conclusion, even if it’s temporary.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, Kuminga agreed to a two-year, $48.5 million deal with the Golden State Warriors.
Per reports, Golden State added more money to their initial offer, but were unwilling to waver on the team option, which is included in the deal.
Kuminga chose this two-year deal over three years and $75M so he can maintain a higher level of control over his immediate future. The Warriors never wavered on team option frameworks. Now, both sides understand likelihood of exploring trades when Kuminga is eligible in January. https://t.co/NfPxZKV6mC

His deal allows Golden State to add their free agent signings in waiting, which include Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, and Seth Curry.
While Kuminga’s agreement with the Warriors means he’ll stay in the Bay Area temporarily, future trade conversations feel inevitable.
The 22-year-old will become trade-eligible again on January 15th, at which point Sacramento could reopen trade conversations if they see fit.
Kuminga could also reach unrestricted free agency next offseason, with Golden State not expected to pick up his team option.
Scott Perry’s Kings don’t currently project to have any cap space at that point, but creative manuvering is always an option in the NBA.
For now, Kuminga will continue to play for the Warriors.
